Changes in the Season
In Spring, cleaning up is a great start for a healthy lawn and garden. It not only reduces conditions for weeds and other pests, it makes your yard look nicer. In addition, mulching is the icing on the cake that makes your plants pop and helps them conserve moisture. And don't forget about getting the weeds pulled along with some pruning and all will be well.
Throughout Summer, keep your landscape looking its best with regular mowing. Follow the recommended mowing guidelines and you'll end up conserving resources and money in the long run, e.g. mowing 1/3 maximum of blade height during any one mowing, keeping grass height between 2 - 3" in height. Basic lawn care is the single most cost-effective, proactive measure that will reduce spreading weeds and unwanted pests such as ticks who love tall grasses. Early summer is also the best time to prune your spring flowering plants that just bloomed.
With Fall, keep up with mulching and removing the leaves. This is important to reduce damp conditions where molds, mildews, and pests can thrive. PETMD suggests prompt leaf removal to reduce fleas in your yard <http://www.petmd.com/dog/parasites/where-do-fleas-ticks-hide-in-the-fall>. Now is also the best time to get your lawn ready for spring by aerating, thatching, top dressing, seeding, or fertilizing.
During Winter, despite people being preoccupied with snow removal, believe it or not there is some gardening that can be done. Late winter is actually the best time to prune many evergreens and deciduous trees while in dormancy. It is also the best time to transplant just before or after the ground freezes and before new bud growth.
There's a season for every task, and your yard needs the proper care to look and be its best. We offer many solutions to get it there. Feel free to call us at 315-876-4366.
